Activities in Durban

uShaka Marine World in Durban, South Africa, the largest ocean park in Africa, boasts fresh and sea water attractions from shipwrecks to an aquarium and dolphinarium, from water slides to amusement parks, from adventure sport to fine dining and shopping.  The new adventure playground is a hit with the under 10′s!  Ushaka and the Durban CBD are a 10 minute drive south from The Grange.

Gateway Theatre of shopping: Attractions at the centre apart from the superb shopping are the entertainment facilities which include ‘D-Rex’ the only double break wave pool in the world, a huge Tony Hawke designed skateboard park, as well as a climbing wall, cinemas and much more.  Gateway is a 10 minute drive from The Grange.

Umgeni Bird Park: Less than 3 kilometre from The Grange is the Umgeni Bird Park with a huge collection of both indigenous and exotic birds. An extremely popular destination for tourists and locals alike.  Entrance fees are minimal and the daily bird show is not to be missed!

Mangrove Swamp: Also just 3 kilometres from The Grange, right on the ocean, are the intriguing Mangrove Swamps where the  plant and animal life of a typical mangrove can be witnessed close up.

Windsor Golf Course: (4km from the Grange) Directly across the river going South back into the city, Windsor offers a fair challenge on one of the busiest municipal golf courses in South Africa. Visitors are welcome and green fees are incredibly reasonable. There are also seven major Golf Courses all witnin 30 minutes drive including Durban Country Club, Royal Durban, Mount Edgecomb(2 courses), Zimbali, Umhlali and Kloof

Kings Park Olympic Swimming Complex: This complex also situated less than 5 kilometres from the Grange, offers two pools, an Olympic sized main pool and a second diving / water polo pool. Both are heated and thus ideal for those who need their daily swimming exercise.

Absa Park Rugby Stadium: The home of  Rugby and the ever popular Sharks, ABSA Park is next to the Kings Park Swimming Complex .

Virgin Active Health Club: A Virgin Active Health Club is situated at the southern entrance to ABSA Park Rugby Stadium. Members are welcome.

Moses Mabhida Stadium: The stunning stadium hosted 7 matches during the World Cup including a semi final.  With seating capacity for 70,000 peopl it is sure to host many events in years to come.  The  massive arches  over the stadium are 100m high, housing the overhead action cameras.  When in Durban take a ride in the skycar to the top of the arch (r50 per adult, discounts for children) and enjoy the sweeping view of Durban city, suburbs and  beaches.  If its an adrenalin rush you are after, try the one of a kind BIG SWING bungee jump or take a walk up the arches.  The Grange is a mere 5 minute drive from this magnificent stadium.  Restaurants and sport stores available.
